A new music video approaches the challenge of the 2024 presidential election from a philosophical point of view, asking the eternal theological question: Is Donald Trump God, or is God Donald Trump?
It’s a blasphemous question, of course, but then, you can also think of it as addressing a larger blasphemy within Donald Trump’s Christian Nationalist movement.
Donald Trump’s supporters claim that he has a kind of unique divine status as a demigod who has been anointed by the Christian god, chosen as President of the United States regardless of the will of the American people. They say that Donald Trump has an Army Of God. How is that not blasphemy?
So what if it is blasphemy? Without the freedom to blaspheme, there can be no genuine liberty at all.
The lyrics of this blasphemous music video:
Is Donald Trump God, or is God Donald Trump?
I’m not sure.
I can’t keep track anymore.
Here comes Donald Trump.
He’s got an Army of God.
I don’t want to be in the Army of God.
Why do you want to be in the Army of God?
If Donald Trump leads the Army of God,
Why do you want to be in the Army of God?
—
Seriously, an army is a social entity that is designed to divide and destroy. What kind of god would be so unimaginative and uncompassionate as to use its magical powers to create an army?
An Army of God is nothing more than an exhibition of holy uncreative thinking.
