United Nations officials have urged the immediate and unconditional release of Yahaya Sharif-Aminu. Aminu is currently serving on death row.

Yahaya Sharif-Aminu was convicted in 2020 for sharing song lyrics on WhatsApp.
Those song lyrics were determined by a Nigerian court to be blasphemous, offensive to God.
Yahaya Sharif-Aminu is facing death for daring to share somebody else’s words that challenged the authority of religion.
It is Aminu’s imprisonment, not his irreverent words, that are offensive.
